Cueva del Agua

is a Cave of Water located approximately 20 minutes from Pozo Alcon on the road to Quesada, near Tiscar.  It is a great drive up into the mountains and is a well recommended visit in the Spring when the snows have fallen from the mountains.

Cave of Water....good to visit in the Spring.

Following the recent snowfalls we decided to visit the Cueva del Agua (Cave of Water) which is located on the C323 road between Tiscar and Quesada (about 30 mins north of Pozo Alcon).

We had already visited during the summer months but were disappointed to find out on arrival it was bone dry!  We had also had difficulty finding it as upon arrival we walked down the steps and turned left to start what we thought would be a walk to see the water, but soon realised we had got it completely wrong.  “Cueva del Agua” - Cave of Water, we should have known by the name that we were looking for a cave!  If we had turned immediately right at the bottom of the steps we would have found what we were looking for!

This time, we were not disappointed.  We arrived mid afternoon and it was fairly quiet with only a few cars there.  Basically, you park up where you can.  We walked down the few steps and turned right, you go through a tunnel.  You have to duck down low as you walk through if you are higher than 4 foot nothing!  Once through (it is only a short distance and you are in daylight the whole time) you have a choice to continue around or take the 90 - I think it was, steps down to the bottom.  We continued around to experience the water coming from the top of the mountains firstly gushing down, then we turned back and started our descent!  The recent snowfall and rain of the winter months had brought an abundance of water and gushing waterfalls.  It was fantastic to finally see what we had come to see back in the summer months.

If you like water, it is worth the drive to see….but don't leave it too late.  I would imagine another month or so and it will start to dry out.

Other areas of interest in the area include:

Santuario de Tiscar which is an old Monastery and is located just before Cueva del Agua.  There is a restaurant here but unfortunately on both occasions we have gone it has been closed!

Tiscar is a pretty little village with very narrow streets.  You turn off to this just after Cueva del Agua.

Quesada is a larger town with shops and restaurants.  Located approximately 13kms after Cueva del Agua.
