The Sierra de Cazorla and Sierra de Segura Natural Parks are located in the Jaen Province. The border to the Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park is some 20 minutes from Castril on the A326 towards Pozo Alcon.

 

 

Lake Bolera

 

On route to Pozo Alcon you will pass Lake Bolera, another large lake where from June to September, many outdoor pursuits are carried out such as horse riding, quad bikes, 4x4 treks, mountain biking, walking, kayaking and more.

 

There are also walks in the area suitable for all to enjoy.

On route to Cazorla, just before Tiscar, you will find Cueva de Agua. The best time to visit is in spring after the rain and winter snow starts to thaw. You will be greeted with a spectacular array of waterfalls.

 

 

Cazorla

 

 

Cazorla is approximately 1.5 hours from Castril and well worth a drive. Cazorla itself can be rather commercialised during the summer months, and some people get disappointed by this.

There is an outdoors pool here in the summer months (was rather busy on the day we went)!

 

 

 

Cazorla Natural Park
 

 

 

 

If you drive on for approximately 20 minutes you will go deep into the Natural Park where you will be able to enjoy spectacular countryside and views.

 

 

 


 

You may see signs for the "Rio Guadalquivir" which will take you to the source / beginning of where the river starts. In Spring, there are beautiful waterfalls, but during the summer months it becomes bone dry. To reach the river you have to go along an uneven track, which seems to go on forever. It will take you a good 20 minutes from the main road. So think carefully before doing this route. It is time consuming and you may not see much. That said, if you are looking to some walking, park the car up - and walk as far as you like! It is an ideal location to stop and have a picnic too.
