Our guide to successfully finding legitimate building services
During the last 3 years we have been advised, via our readers of many good and many bad builders including people claiming to be able to “Project Manage” their houses - unfortunately mostly English.
We do not believe in publically naming and shaming companies in the magazine but would like to offer some guidance to help people minimize the risk of getting ripped off by paying toomuch money or in fact buying something that they later find out is not what they thought they bought. This does happen!
1. ALWAYS USE A FULLY LEGALLY REGISTERED COMPANY - ASK TO SEE THEIR
PAPERWORK - DON’T JUST TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT
2. ENSURE YOU GET MORE THAN ONE QUOTATION
(you would in the UK, so ensure you do here)
3. DON’T FEEL PRESSURIZED INTO MAKING A DECISION. IF YOU ARE BEING
RUSHED - ASK YOURSELF WHY!
4. HAVE A LEGALLY BINDING FORMAL CONTRACT DRAWN UP, PREFERABLY IN ENGLISH AND
SPANISH - DO NOT CUT CORNERS AS YOU MIGHT REGRET IT IF THINGS GO WRONG.
5. MAKE SURE YOU VISIT THE PROPERTIES THEY SAY THEY HAVE WORKED ON
AND ENSURE THE OWNERS ARE THERE SO YOU CAN SPEAK WITH THEM
PERSONALLY. ASK TO SEE PAPERWORK AND RECEIPTS PROVING THE
COMPANY DID IN FACT WORK ON THE PROPERTY AND IT ISN’T A FRIEND TRYING
TO DO THEM A FAVOUR!
