Unfortunately, over the last 12 months, we have been made aware of some "dodgy" companies ranging from builders to companies.
These people will try to offer the complete package (e.g. offering houses for sale cheaper than with an Estate Agent), advising they have their own builders, then they will offer project management services.
Unfortunately, English themselves they have been successfully ripping off English speaking people moving to the area who don't know anything about the area and are taken in by this people who "have the gift of the gab" and come across as nice genuine people.
Many people have contacted The Sierras Magazine due to various companies advertising with us and they have asked us to get it across to the community - not to scare people but to make people aware they really need to do their homework before committing large sums of money to anyone.
The builders/companies that we have been asked to focus on are English but due to legal reasons we cannot publicise their details in our magazine or on the internet. That said, if people want to contact us and say they are considering using the services of a certain company we are within our rights to say whether we can recommend, not recommend them or remain indifferent.
In January 2009's edition of The Sierras we will be publicising our guide to finding a successful building/company and we hope this will be of some benefit to you.
One thing that has also been mentioned is, wherever possible people should get a hire car. If you get an all in package whereby you stay with the people you might later buy from you will not be able about to move around the area at your leisure and will not be able to find out about the company you are intending to buy from.
