Castril is set in the heart of the Sierra de Castril Natural Park, Granada Province, which adjoins the more well known Sierra de Cazorla in the Jaen Province, Andalucia.  It is surrounded by four beautiful lakes, Embalse Portillo, Embalse San Clemente, Embalse La Bolera and Lake Negratin and is becoming an extremely popular tourist destination for all.

For the summer months there are several pools nearby including one in Castril itself making it a great location for tourism such as relaxing, swimming and water sports (available June to September only).

The Village

Castril is a traditional picturesque white village, with narrow cobbled streets and fountains/water

features, plus a large Tourist Information Centre and Museum.

Castril offers 3 small supermarkets (similar to British corner shops!),  Bakery, 2 Butchers, Post Office, Pharmacy, Medical Centre (with 24 hours emergency cover), Beauticians, Hairdressers, Tabacos (to buy cigarettes), a Ferriteria (where you can buy most day to day essentials).  There are also 2 schools which caters for children from 3 - 14 years old (see separate page on local schools).

The village is well looked after, and many people come to the village and sit outside one of the bars to take in the slower pace of life, whilst enjoying the fantastic views and rare birds that glide overhead.  It is extremely with Spanish, German, French and Dutch tourists throughout the year and is now becoming more popular with British tourists as the word spreads...

The region is well known for its spectacular scenery, dramatic views and flora and fauna, making the landscape perfect for painting, drawing and photographic pursuits.

Walking and Cycling

Extremely popular, especially during the cooler autumn months (see our separate page on walks).  There are many different routes available in the Sierra de Castril Natural Park to choose from, and at the bottom of Castril the "suspended walk", which is more well known to the English is "the Castril Gorge Walk’ – is a must for all....
